DOLPHIN visits with your baby will occur at our lab in an office building in Midtown Manhattan. Our team will meet you in the lobby and bring you and your baby upstairs to begin the visit!
We will first bring you into a private waiting room with a changing table, diapers, and wipes, while we explain the components of the visit. Here, Anahid is measuring Rory's head for the EEG cap!
Next, our team will take you and your baby into our EEG room to set up for the EEG portion of the study visit! Your baby will be sitting on your lap while our team gets them set up.
Once the EEG cap is on, your baby will remain seated on your lap and watch some videos. Our team will be sitting underneath the screen with toys to keep baby's attention to the screen!
After the EEG, we will bring you and your baby into another room to read two books.
EEG stands for electroencephalography. EEG measures brain waves by tracking electrical activity in the brain. EEG is noninvasive and painless for children. During an EEG visit, small sensor sponges are placed on the head. These sponges sit on the head like a swim cap and passively record changes in brain electricity.
EEG is considered a safe, noninvasive method for measuring brain activity as early as infancy. We will make sure you and your child are comfortable during the entire EEG study, and you will have the opportunity to take breaks or stop at any time.
